The Challenge

Why this matters

The dating app market is saturated with low-quality, swipe-based experiences. Vybes needed to differentiate with a premium, intentional dating experience that prioritizes real connections over endless swiping. The challenge was building a platform that feels exclusive while being technically robust enough to handle real-time video calling, ID verification, member curation, and event management.

Conducted extensive user research with 200+ singles in the target demographic to understand pain points with existing dating apps

Designed the VybeCheck — a video-first matching flow where first dates happen face-to-face on a 15-minute call with built-in ice breakers, before any texting

Built a members-only application and invite system with proprietary ID verification, so every profile is a real, handpicked person

Created an event discovery engine for exclusive in-person meetups — including Vybes Villa, the community's own reality dating show

Developed a curated matching algorithm based on values, lifestyle, and relationship goals rather than just appearance

The Solution

What we built

We built Vybes as a cross-platform mobile app using React Native with a Node.js backend. The app features real-time WebRTC video calling, document verification via AI, date scheduling with push notifications, and a sophisticated event management system. Every interaction is designed to build trust and facilitate genuine connections — and the traction that followed carried Vybes to a $10 million valuation.
